11 martyered and 46 injured in unprovoked Afghan forces firing on boarder villages of Chaman

Islamabad: At least eleven  people were killed and over 46 others injured as Afghan border forces opened fire on security personnel guarding a census team in Killi Jahangir and Killi Luqman villages of Balochistan’s Chaman area today.
Injured were soon shifted to the Civil Hospital Chaman and emergency has been imposed. Critical injured persons were shifted to Quetta hospital for medical treatment.
According to the ISPR’s Afghan statement, border police opened fire on FC personnel detailed for the security of a census team in Chaman regardless of the fact that Afghan authorities had been already informed about the census exercise in Pakistan through diplomatic and military channels.
FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria in a weekly briefing in Islamabad has also confirmed that Afghan authorities had been informed about the on-going census exercise.
Nafees said that the census team was fulfilling its duties in the area and the exercise was taking place within the jurisdiction of Pakistan and added that Pakistan retaliated after the exchange of fire.
“Dialogue is the only political means available to us to establish peace in Afghanistan and our peace efforts in Afghanistan would continue,” he maintained.
The Foreign Office (FO) after summoned the Afghan chargé d’affaires was summoned by the Foreign Office and a strong protest has been lodged against the cross-border attack. The FO urged the Afghan government to take action against those responsible for the violation.
Later ISPR in a statement has conformed the exchange of firing had stopped and Pakistan and Afghan security officials would be meeting on the Chaman crossing for a flag meeting. The director generals of military operations of both armies also established
In the afternoon Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan had telephonic conversation with IG-FC Balochistan Major General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum who briefed the Minister about this whole incident.
IG-FC Balochistan, while briefing the Minister, said that the incident started after Afghan forces started firing “on our security forces which were busy providing security to the census team”.
The Interior Minister expressed his heartfelt condolence over the martyrdom of two soldiers of Pak Army and FC.
He said that the action of Afghan forces, which they did at the behest of someone else, was neutralized as a result of effective and immediate response from Pak Army and FC.
The Interior Minister strongly condemned the firing incident initiated by the Afghan forces and observed that the Security agencies of Afghan Government, who cannot control their own territory, have set a bad precedent by cross -border shelling, targeting innocent civilians.
He said that valiant response from Pakistan army and FC to this unprovoked cross-border shelling would discourage such tendencies
