Islamabad: Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal, hosted a colorful reception to celebrate the 97th National Day of Afghanistan’s Independence on Friday at a local hotel here in Islamabad. Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz was chief guest, Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar, Ameer Jamaat e islami Siraj ul Haq, Mahmmood Khan Achakzi, Aftab Khan Sherpao, Mian Ifthar Hussain were prominent among the participants.
The key feature of the afghan National Day ceremony was domination and presence of afghan business community settled in Pakistan, diplomats, dignitaries and prominent citizens from different walks of life at the event. The ceremony was started with the playing of national anthems of both Pakistan and Afghanistan. Afghan ambassador along with chief guest Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz was chief guest, Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar and others guest cut the cake.
Addressing on the occasion Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a peaceful neighborhood enshrines a comprehensive partnership with Afghanistan for promoting peace, progress and prosperity of our region.
He said we persistently Endeavour for constructive engagement with Afghanistan to further strengthen our neighborly ties, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said we firmly believe that politically negotiated settlement through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process is the most viable option for achieving stability.
The Advisor on Foreign Affairs said that terrorism remains a common threat to both Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said Pakistan and its forces are valiantly fighting the menace of terrorism and we have rendered immense human and economic sacrifices in this struggle.
He said close cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is important for eliminating the scourge of terrorism from our region. The Advisor said Pakistan is undertaking a number of reconstruction and development projects in Afghanistan geared to stimulate socio-economic development. Under the 500 million dollars assistance package, the Government of Pakistan has built roads, schools, universities and hospitals in various parts of Afghanistan.
Dr. Abdullah Waheed Poyan, Afghan Consul General in Peshawar also hosted a function to celebrate 97th Independence Day of Afghanistan at a local Hotel in Peshawar. In his welcome address, Afghan Consul General said the Independence Day recalls the sacrifices rendered by our elders for attainment of freedom for the motherland. Afghans are living in every nook and corner of the world due to war with Russian and internal disability, but they always have a lot of love and affection for their motherland, Dr. Abdullah Waheed Poyan added.
