Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology was the chief guest of the reception. On the occasion Ambassador of Afghanistan Janan Mosazai in his welcoming address thanked the guests and informed them in detail about the developments and successes of the present government of Afghanistan.
Ambassador of Afghanistan Janan Mosazai told the audience that Most of you may remember that we celebrated our Independence Day anniversary here last year right around the time of our presidential and provincial council elections. Since then, Afghanistan has marked a number of significant successful milestones and achievements that have unfortunately been overshadowed by an ongoing wave of violence and terrorism that our people are subjected to on an almost daily basis.
Last year’s elections, where a record number of Afghan citizens exercised their democratic duty by voting in the millions despite terrorist attacks and intimidation, and which marked the first peaceful, democratic transfer of authority from one elected president to another elected president, is a milestone event in our history.
Telling about the diplomatic achievements Ambassador of Afghanistan Janan Mosazai said that a long list of efforts, initiatives and visits which I cannot list here but which include the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement with the United States and a Status of Forces Agreement with NATO in the first days of the new government and President Ghani’s early visits to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the UAE and most of our other neighbours, the United States as well as co-chairmanship of the Heart of Asia ministerial conference in China in October, the London Conference in December of last year, and the NATO foreign ministerial meeting earlier this year, testify to the Afghan government’s energetic and sincere outreach to our neighbours and renewal of our partnerships with our international friends and allies.
