Islamabad: Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei G Ermolovich hosted an excellent and colorful national day reception here in Islamabad on 1st July at Serena Hotel Islamabad. Minister of State for Education and Trainings Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman was the chief guest of the ceremony. Ambassador of Belarus along with embassy staff warmly received and welcomed the guest on the occasion. Scores of the ambassadors from diplomatic crops, parliamentarians, media personalities, security officials and business community was among the participants.
The key feature of the Belarus’s National Day reception was dominations of business community of Pakistan. The ceremony was started with the playing of national anthems of both Pakistan and Belarus. Belarus ambassador with Minister of State for Education and Trainings Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman and other guests cut the cake.
Belarus got independence form Soviet Union and declared its sovereignty on 27 July 1990 by issuing the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic. With the support of the Communist Party, the country’s name was changed to the Republic of Belarus on 25 August 1991.
Pakistan and Belarus have a long history of bilateral relations and business community of both countries in touch with each other. In March a high profile Trade Delegation headed by Vitaly Vovk.
On the occasion President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FPCCI) Abdul Rauf Alam stated that Economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Belarus can also be increased through marketing of products and highlighting opportunities in each other countries.
The FPCCI President further said that the current volume of bilateral trade does not reflect the warmth and depth of Pak-Belarus relations. Both countries is trading with each other under US $ 60 million in which Pakistan’s export is US $ 15 million while Belarus export to Pakistan is 43 million.
In April a high level Belarusian delegation visited Ministry of Defence Production and met Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain and discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly bilateral cooperation in the field defence production.
The delegation expressed interest to explore the areas of defence cooperation. They visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah Cantt, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra , National Radio and Telecommunication (NRTC) Haripur andDefence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), Islamabad.
