Bulgarian Ambassador Hosts 138th Anniversary of Libration Day in Islamabad

Islamabad: Ambassador of republic of Bulgaria to Pakistan Mr, Roumen Pirontchey hosted a grand reception to mark 138th anniversary of  Liberation Day of Bulgaria at his residence in the Diplomatic Enclave in the federal capital on Thursday. Federal minister for commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir was the Chief Guest of ceremony. While scores of politicians, parliamentarians, diplomats, representatives of think tanks took parted in the ceremony.

Ahead of the cake cutting ceremony, the national anthems of both countries performed which was highly appreciated by the participants. On the occasion Minister for commerce Khurram Dastgir and the ambassador Mr, Roumen Pirontchey discussed the bilateral relations and possibilities of expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Bulgaria. Pakistan and Bulgaria have history of bilateral relation which started in 1974, when Bulgarian government officially established its embassy in Islamabad.


Bulgaria is a European country having about eight million populations in the Balkan and it was a part of the Ottoman Empire from 1396 to 1878. As a result of Russia’s victory in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878, the Treaty of San Stefano was signed between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. And on the behalf to that treaty Bulgaria became an independent state.

Bulgaria is an industrialized nation with a developed heavy and light manufacturing industry. Bulgaria is among Europe’s largest producers of lead, zinc and copper and produces around ten percent of the world’s hydraulic machinery. The country is the largest electricity exporter in South-eastern Europe.


Despite being a small nations Bulgaria is among leading countries of Europe in the fields of information technology and manufacturing. Bulgaria holds third place in Europe and tenth position worldwide with respect to absolute number of certified IT professionals, third place world-wide according to certificates per capita.
