Islamabad: Charge de Affairs of Azerbaijan in Islamabad Chingiz Gharibli hosted a reception in Islamabad to celebrate the Republic Day of his country on Friday at Serena Hotel Islamabad. Scores of diplomats, politicians, business community of twin city, military officials and diplomatic crops were among the participants. Minister of State for Education and Trainings Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman was the chief guest of the ceremony. Before the cake cutting ceremony national anthems of the Pakistan and Azerbaijan were sung.
Speaking on the occasion Azerbaijan Cahrge de Affairs Chingiz Gharibli said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have historic relations and both shares their sorrows and pleasures with each other. He said Pakistan was the first country who opened its diplomatic missions in capital Baku and Pakistan was the third country who recognized Azerbaijan followed by Turkey and Romania in 1991.
Chingiz Garibli Said that we appreciate the fact that Pakistan supports Azerbaijan position on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh and that is why Pakistan refused to recognize Armenia due to its aggressions till the day. And Azerbaijan also supports Pakistan’s stance regarding Jammu and Kashmir and wish that the issue should be solved according the UN resolutions. Reminding the history he said people of Azerbaijan showed its brotherly support during the 2005 earthquake in Azad Kashmir and 2010, 11 flood.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy close and cordial relations, characterized by shared perceptions on major global and regional issues. Apart from official diplomatic high level visits and meetings that are regularly held among the heads of states, military and parliamentary officials are regular visitor of each countries.
In last 25 year diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan enhanced gradually. Both countries formed Pakistan-Azerbaijan Friendship Association, existence of Multani Caravanserai in Ichiri Sheher Baku, reconstruction of the High School for Girls donated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation of Azerbaijan in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the adoption of resolution by Foreign Relations Committee of Senate of Pakistan recognizing Khojaly massacre as genocide and demanding Armenia to leave Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and its adjacent regions.
