China reaffirms support for Pakistan in war against terrorism

Beijing: China pledged its support for efforts made by Pakistan against terrorism during the meeting between foreign ministers of both the countries in Beijing on Friday, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to the media reports, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif arrived in China on Friday at the start of his regional outreach for consultations on the new US policy on Afghanistan and South Asia.

Addressing a joint press conference after his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, Khawaja Asif said that the two countries agreed that the solution to the Afghan conflict has to be fundamentally political and that there is no military solution to the issue.

He said Islamabad has profoundly reviewed US Afghan policy on South Asia and thinks that there is no military solution to Afghan conundrum. Khawaja Asif, who was on a first official visit to Beijing as the foreign minister, said talks and peace were the only solution to this lingering problem.

He said relations between Pakistan and China are anchored in the history, adding that China is playing a positive role for peace in the region. Khawaja Asif said Pakistan seeks relations with its neighbors on the basis of equality.

He appreciated China’s efforts in ending the Afghan conflict, saying that Pakistan and China can together contribute to a political solution of the conflict.

He said Pakistan and China stand together amid changing regional and international situation.

Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign minister said Pakistan and China stand together in the changing regional and global scenario. China attaches great respect to Pakistan’s interest and said relations between the two countries are stable.

He  welcomed Pakistan’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan and expressed Beijing’s desire for better relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He said peace in Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan, China and the entire region.

After his China visit, Asif will travel to Iran. He has also planned meetings with Russian and Turkish leaders.
