Islamabad: Deputy Head of Mission at Chinese Embassy in Islamabad Muhammad Lijian Zhao has said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will change the fate of people of Pakistan and rest of the religion. Pakistanis will be the first and last beneficiary of the CPEC but rest of the region will also benefit from the multi billions project. Muhammad Lijian Zhao Charge d’ affaires of Chinese diplomatic mission in Islamabad expressed these views in an exclusive interview with Pakistan state news agency Associated Press Pakistan(APP) here in Islamabad on Thursday.
Sharing the details of completed projects informed that in addition to 30 infrastructures and energy projects already being completed by the Chinese companies in Pakistan, as many as five new projects will also be launched under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework this year. “Eight coals, solar, wind and hydro-power energy projects are also under construction to meet the energy requirement of the country,” Mr. Lijian Zhao added.
Chinese companies are also implementing two mega projects including the Thakot-Havailian section of Karrakurm Highway (KKH) and Sukkur-Multan section of Lahore-Karachi motorway at a cost of US$ 3 billion, he said.
Chinese deputy Envoy said, prior to signing of CPEC between China and Pakistan in 2013, China was at number 16 in terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan, adding; now China is the largest investor in Pakistan after initiating multi-billion dollars project under the CPEC framework.
On Thursday Mr. Geng Huichang Minister for State Security of China met with Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here in Islamabad and discussed security situation of Pakistan and region in details. On the occasion Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan said Pakistan’s expanded cooperation with China in counter terrorism, security and trade domains would arguably be a defining partnership in 21st century.
He expressed these views during a meeting with visiting Minister for State Security of Mr. Geng Huichang Minister for State Security of China is on the visit of Pakistan and high Officials from China’s counter terrorism, technical and intelligence divisions were also part of the Chinese security delegation.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Geng Huichang appreciated efforts of Pakistan in fight against terrorism, specially the gains achieved under operation Zarb-i-Azb. The two sides agreed to further strengthen information and intelligence sharing through extended technical cooperation and coordination.
About security of Chinese citizens working across Pakistan in different development projects including CPEC, the Minister pointed out that a Special Security Division is already working under Pakistan Army to secure their lives.
The meeting covered a broader scope of discussion for increased coordination between security establishments of two countries in intelligence sharing, counter terrorism coordination, and security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Ch. Nisar said, “Secure and successful completion of CPEC would add new dimensions to our friendship cementing our economic as well as strategic bond.”
He said both sides must be cautious about regional and global powers which do not want to see CPEC for their own interests and reiterated that Pakistan, at all levels, is committed to thwarting all conspiracies against CPEC. Ch. Nisar said two sides should exponentially enhance intelligence sharing precisely in fight against terrorism, extremism and countering violence.
