Egypt’s Grand Mufti called Islamic State a mislead and criminal group

Islamabad: Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel Karim Allam said Islamic State  or Daesh is a mislead and criminal group which has nothing to do with Islam, he said that Islam is a religion of peace and security that emphasizes on the well-being of humanity, The top Egyptian cleric said that the terrorists are spreading their nefarious designs using social media and internet as a tool, so there is a need to evolve an efficient strategy in view of these threats. He further said that a wrong narrative was being promoted about Islam these days and there was a need to highlight the enlightened face of Islam through rejecting all misperceptions about it and adopting a good character to provide right guidance to the people.

Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel Karim Allam said this while addressing an International Conference titled “Promotion of Religious Tolerance in Light of the Teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” organized by Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony at a local hotel in Islamabad on Thursday. He said  Egypt has rendered great sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and its brave sons will be remembered for long time and would be written in the golden words.

The  Ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan, Ahmed Fadel Yakoub, on the occasion said both Pakistan and Egypt share common interest and are victim of terrorism and extremism. Egypt envoy introduced in details about the Egypt’s Grand Mufti Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel Karim Allam and way of his selection. Ahmed Fadel Yakoub said we are confident that Pakistan and Egypt will work together against the menace of terrorism at national and international level.

Egypt’s Grand Mufti urged Ulema, intellectuals, educationists and civil society to play their role for elimination of destructive concepts of terrorism and extremism. Collective efforts are needed to frustrate the designs of terrorists, who wanted to tear apart the fabric of entire society. He stressed the need to check the promotion of terrorism on social media, saying we should disseminate the message of Islam through our character, education. He asked the world to make decisive action against terrorists.

He said National decree of Pakistan namely, ‘Paigham-e-Pakistan’ would be translated into Arabic language and distributed among various segments of society in Egypt for their benefit. He said Islam teaches promoting peace, tolerance and harmony among each other. The killings of innocent people is not allowed in any religion. Islam encourages cooperation in good deeds.

The Grand Mufti said that declaring any one infidel and Issuing fatwa’s is not the job of terrorists sitting in caves, it is a very dangerous approach and the Muslim Ummah should play its role to counter such trends. Only competent researchers, Ulema and Mutfis having vast knowledge of Quran, Hadith and Fiqa can issue a fatwa on sensitive issues,” he added. Every Muslim should play his role in portraying a true picture of Islam as fake Islamic organizations, created by enemies to give bad name to Islam, have been involved in the mass massacre of people in the name of religion. We should have to take measures to completely eliminate terrorism and extremism, he said.

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said the Seerat of last Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) teaches tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence. The inking of Hudaibiya treaty by Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was a great example of Prophet’s tolerance and compassion. In an Islamic country minorities enjoy equal rights and religious freedom. No non-Muslim could be compelled to change his religion.

Sardar Muhammad Yousaf while Highlighting Religious Ministry’s efforts of promoting religious harmony, he said National Ulema and Mashaikh Council, National Commission for Minorities have been constituted to promote religious harmony besides National Seerat Conferences are being held annually for spreading the peace message of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He said Pakistan’s National Decree Paigham-e-Pakistan Fatwa has been endorsed by Egypt and Imam Kaaba. The need is to spread the message of peace among all for ensuring peace in the world.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Lt Gen (Retd) Nasir Khan Janjua stressed the need for concerted efforts for promoting religious harmony and tolerance among the ranks of Muslims. He said Muslims should display the power of righteous character for practically showing the picture a true believer of Islam. He said misunderstanding are being deliberately created among fellow Muslims to waste their energies in futile internal bickering so that the enemies could not remain safe. “We should all play our due role in achieving the lasting peace in the country as Islam too preaches tolerance, forbearance and avoid war in the name of Islam” he concluded.

State Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Ami-ul-Hasnat Shah said enemies were trying to promote hatred among various sects of Islam. Implementing National Decree or narrative Paigham-e-Pakistan with letter and spirit would make the country peaceful. National security advisor Nasir Khan Janjua, Dr Yasin Zaraf, Allama Arif Wahidi, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, Pandit Channa Lal also spoke on the occasion.
