Islamabad: Newly appointed German Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) Ms. Sabine Sparwasser met with the political and military leadership of Pakistan and discussed issues related to Pakistan and Afghanistan here in Islamabad. Sabine Sparwasser praised the Pakistani on going military offensive against the Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants in the tribal area of Pakistani. German Ambassador-designate Ms. Inna Lepel was also accompanied during the Special Envoy meetings in islamabad.
During a meeting with the Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday Sabine Sparwasser appreciated the successes of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and sacrifices rendered by the Pakistani nation and armed forces fighting against the terrorist. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), she met Chief of Army Staff General Sharif at the GHQ on Monday. Matters of mutual interest and regional security came under discussion, added the statement.
Earlier German Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan Ms. Sabine Sparwasser called on Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Parliament House. Various issues of mutual interest including latest developments in Pakistan and Germany bilateral parliamentary relations came under discussion. The Speaker said that both the countries had a tradition of good and amicable relations and appreciates German support for strengthening democratic institutions and stable development in Pakistan.
Ayaz Sadiq and the German Representative underlined the need for exploring possibilities of enhancing cooperation between the two legislatures. He said that parliamentary diplomacy could contribute towards strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
During her two day stay in Islamabad German Special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan also met with Sartaj Aziz, Special Advisor to Prime Minister on National security and Foreign Affairs and discussed bilateral and regional issues.
