India has committed a genocide of Kashmiri people: Zaffar Akber Bhatt

Islamabad: Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement Chairman, Zaffar Akber Bhatt said India has committed a genocide of Kashmiri Muslims to quell their uprising and Indian forces are “assaulting civilians during search operations, tortured and summarily executed detainees in custody and murdered civilians in reprisal attacks”. He expressed these views while addressing a Briefing Session on Kashmir: Perspective and Experience from Indian Occupied Kashmir” organized by Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies(IPDS) here at Islamabad club on Wednesday. Zafar Akbar Bhat, said that as per estimated reports close to 200,000 people have died since 1989.  There have been over 70,000 killings, 8000 plus forced disappearances, mass torture and sexual violence, the majority committed by Indian armed forces, and that these cases have had zero prosecution in civilian courts.  He further said that rape has regularly been used as a means to “punish and humiliate” communities and they use it as a weapon of war by the state against the population.  He further added that since past seven decades Indian army in Jammu and Kashmir had carried out extrajudicial killings of civilians and suspected insurgents and during this period more than ten thousand disappeared during forces custody.

Lt General (R) Abdul Qayyum the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production has said The Draconian laws in Indian Occupied Kashmir and the atrocities of the Indian forces requires the International Community to take action against the state sponsored human rights violations in Kashmir. General (R) Abdul Qayyum said that Pakistan is standing with its Kashmiri brethren in thick and thin and will also continue to support the cause at the international, regional and national level. He said that it is priority of Pakistan to inform the international community about the right of self determination of Kashmir people and which is also the part of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. Ms. Farhat Asif, President Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies, highlighted the significance of organizing this briefing session.

Dr Adnan Sarwar Khan, Head of IR department National University of Modern Languages, Farzana Yaqoob Former Minister AJK also spoke about the current situation in Kashmir and various connected dynamics during the session. Mr Altaf Ahmad bhat  vice chairman Jammu And Kashmir Salvation Movement Chairman ,Mehmood Ahmad Sagir senior APHC leader,  Senior journalist and columnist Aqeel ahamd tareen, Zafar bakhtawri, Mushtaq askari, Myra Imarn including a Large number of diplomats, academia, media groups and civil society activist were present on the occasion.

Zaffar Akber on Thursday Zaffar Akber Bhatt paid glowing tributes on the occasion of Muhammad Afzal Guru on his 5th martyrdom anniversary and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat on his 34rd martyrdom anniversary, in a statement  he said their sacrifices for the just and rightful struggle were remarkable, unforgettable and etched in the minds of people, Zaffar appealed people to make the programmes given by the unified resistance a success by observing complete shutdown on February 9, the martyrdom anniversary of Guru, and February 11, the martyrdom anniversary of Bhat, The statement said for the fulfillment of their right to self determination, tens and thousands of people of Kashmir had offered selfless sacrifices of their lives but the martyrdom of Guru and Bhat were unique, exceptional and matchless as these sacrifices had breatheda new life in Kashmir’s resistance struggle.

Jammu And Kashmir Salvation Movement Chairman said the mission of these martyrs would be fulfilled only when the entire nation shows dedication and unity and remains steadfast and consistent for fructifying the pious task, he said the best way of paying tributes to Guru,Bhat and other martyrs was to remain united and to beware and foil all designs with intentions to harm the ongoing resistance movement. Demanding the return of mortal remains of Guru and Bhat to the Kashmiri nation, salvation movement appealed the emancipated and justice-loving nations and people of the world to take note of the anti-democratic and inhuman tactics adopted by India on Kashmiris by playing a role in helping Kashmiri nation get back mortal remains of these martyrs.
