By Arif Qoreshi

LAHORE:  Jammat Dawa Spokesman Yahya Mujahid reacted strongly over the announcement of $10 million bounty for the arrest of founder of Lashkar- Taiba Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and $2 millon over the arrest of central leader Hafiz Abdurehman Makki by United States State Department website rewards for justice,

“That is another attack on Muslims and Islam by the USA  which hurt the millions of Muslims across the world.”

Jamat Dawa officially reacted through a written statement of its spokesman Yahay Mujahid  in urdu language on Tuesday afternoon.

Yahya Mujahid said United States did that because the defense Pakistan council is  trying its best to abandon the government of Pakistan to restore the NATO supply through Pakistani soil and also on a campaign against the drone attacks.

He defended saying that we are not living in the mountains and caves, “hafiz saeed and hafiz abdurehman makki are the most popular religious and political  leaders of Pakistan and their relief and religious activities are not hidden.”

Yahya Mujahid also blamed United States saying that every one knows whyUSA took action against hafiz saeed and who is  happy in the world after that announcement, “yes Americans wanted to please India and they did it”

The only person with a higher bounty on his head than these four terrorist leaders is Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, for whom the US has offered a reward of $25 million under its Rewards for Justice Programme.

Besides 61-year-old Saeed, the other terrorist leaders who carry a bounty of $10 million on their head include Al-Qaeda’sIraqleader Abu Du’a, one-eyed Mullah Omar and Yasin al-Suri alias Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil, a senior Al-Qaeda facilitator based inIran.

The listing for Saeed on the Rewards for Justice website describes him as a former professor of Arabic and Engineering who was a founding member of “Jamaat-ud-Dawa, a radical salfi Islamist organisation dedicated to installing Islamist rule over parts of India and Pakistan, and its military branch, Lashkar-e-Taiba”.

“Hafiz Saeed is suspected of masterminding numerous terrorist attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 166 people, including six American citizens,” the listing further states.A charge which always denied by the hafiz saeed.

The website noted that India has issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice against Saeed for his role in the Mumbai attacks. Besides, the US Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a “Specially Designated National under Executive Order 13224″.

The US has also offered a $2 million bounty for Saeed’s brother in law and in charge of political affairs of jammat dawa Abdul Rahman Makki, who is described on the Rewards for Justice Website as the “second in command” of the LeT.

The US designated the Lashkar-Taiba a  “Foreign Terrorist Organisation” in December 2001 and the jammat dawa was included the same list in April 2008.

The UN Security Council declared the jammat dawa  a terrorist organisation in December 2008, soon after the Mumbai attacks.

Former Pakistani dictator journal pervez mushrraf  banned the Lashkar- Taiba on 12th january,2002 and latter included the name of jammat dawa in watch listed organizations.

The Jammat Dawa also carries out its relief activities through the “Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation”, which was created On April 27,2006 after  United States put the former relief wing of jammat dawa “idara khidmat-e-khalq” in its list of terrorism.

The US State Department on 23, November, 2010 also added “Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation” into State Department’s list of “designated foreign terrorist organizations”.

In recent months, Saeed has played a key role in cobbling together the Defa-e-Pakistan Council, a conglomerate of over 40 hardline and extremist groups that has organised massive rallies against the US and India across Pakistan.
