Jeddah: Dr. Yousaf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, the Secretary General of organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC), once again reiterated OIC’s full support to the people of Jammu & Kashmir in their legitimate struggle right to self-determination according to the United Nations resolutions. Dr. Yousaf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, the Secretary General of Islamic organization cooperation (OIC), expressed these views while presiding a Seminar and Photo Exhibition on Kashmir at the OIC Secretariat jointly organized by the Pakistan Consulate Jeddah and the OIC head quarter. This was the second consecutive year that Secretary General of OIC has presided the seminar on Kashmir.
The photo exhibition and Seminar on Kashmir at the OIC Secretariat has become an annual feature for the past five years. The event was well attended by high level OIC officials including Ambassador Abdullah Al-Alim, OIC’s Secretary General’s Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir, Saudi officials, members of Diplomatic Corps, local dignitaries and representatives of Pakistan community.
The Secretary General of Islamic organization cooperation (OIC) condemned the human rights violations by Indian forces in Kashmir. The Secretary General called on the Indian Government to stop using force against the Kashmiri people. He recalled his recent meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan in which Kashmir was the first issue discussed between the two and he had assured Prime Minister Imran Khan of OIC’s unflinching support on the Kashmir issue.
Consul General Mr. Shehryar Akbar Khan thanked the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) and the international community for supporting the cause of the people of Kashmir in their legitimate struggle of Kashmiri nation. He said that the Government of Pakistan will continue to extend all moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their historic struggle. He highlighted the plight of the people of Kashmir under foreign occupation and urged the international community to persuade India to end human rights violations and support the UN Report’s recommendation to constitute a Commission of Inquiry (COI) to investigate the human rights violations in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, former convener of All Parties Hurryiat conference (APHC) Azad Kashmir Chapter briefed the audience about prevailing situation and continued human rights violations in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. He called on international community and the OIC in particular to play its role so that Kashmiri people can exercise their inherent right of self-determination. Members of the Kashmir Committee Jeddah presented a resolution to Secretary General, calling OIC to redouble its efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue.
During the organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) annual conference in 1994 in Tehran, Pakistan succeeded in persuading the member countries to create the “OIC Contact Group on Kashmir”. The OIC contact group was established to pursue the Kashmir issue at international level on the principle stance that Kashmir conflict should be resolved according to the aspirations of Kashmiri national and United Nations resolutions promised by both Pakistan and India.
Pakistan has always used organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) as a platform to get support for oppressed Kashmiri people. OIC a 57 member’s platform dominated by Muslim majority countries is considered the collective voice of the Muslim world which works to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony.
Since the creation of special contact group on Kashmir by OIC, it organizes meetings of foreign ministers level every year at the United Nations annual gathering in United States. It is worth mentioning that the present Secretary General of organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousaf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, always took keen interest to highlight the Kashmir Issue at international level. In his recent address he described that in his last meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan both discussed the Kashmir Issue in details that shows the commitment and dedication of Dr. Yousaf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, with Kashmir conflict and people of Jammu & Kashmir.
