Islamabad: Speakers unanimously rejected the Indian narrative of blaming that Pakistan is funding the ongoing indigenous freedom movement of Kashmir. There was consensus among the speakers that there is no other solution to Kashmir dispute except to allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their birth right through United Nations resolutions. Through a joint resolution speakers urged United Nations and Human Rights organizations to play their respective role to solve decade old dispute between Pakistan and India. It was said that it is the duty of Pakistani media to play its role to highlight the Indian atrocities in Kashmir internationally and domestically along with Pakistan Government, the political parties and the civil society.
Speakers express these views in a seminar jointly organized by Kashmir Post and Kashmir Resolution Forum on the topic “Current situation in Indian occupied Kashmir and role of media”, at a local Hotel here in Islamabad on Thursday. The attendees were senior journalists, human rights activists and civil society correspondents. Vice chairman Salvation Movement, Altaf Ahmad Bhat presided the seminar while Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Parvaiz Rashid Senior journalist Afzal Butt, Sheikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, Waleed Rasool, Sheikh Mateen, Mazhar Abbas, Shakeel Turabi, Javed Siddiq, Nawaz Raza, Matiullah Jan were prominent among the speakers.
Vice chairman Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement, Altaf Ahmad Bhat in his presidential address briefed the audience about ongoing movement in Indian controlled Kashmir. He said that the sacrifices of the Kashmir people forced the Indian leadership to admit their wrong doing regarding Kashmir. Altaf Bhat said that former Indian defense minister P K Chadam Barm, former foreign minister Salman Khurihsed, and former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir Omar Abdullah openly admitted that India itself is responsible for present unrest in Kashmir .
Addressing the seminar Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Parvaiz Rashid said Pakistan will continue moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris in their just struggle for their right to self determination. He said Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif nominated a person for the post of Azad Kashmir president who has worked for Kashmir cause during his whole career as diplomat.
He said Masood Khan will present the case of Kashmiris in front of world in a better way. He said the nomination of Masood Ahmed Khan as president of AJK is shows commitment of PM Nawaz Sharif with Kashmir cause. The Minister said India is trying to suppress the voice of Kashmiris by the use of brutal force but will not succeed in its designs. He said efforts should be continued to highlight the Kashmir issue at the international level so the ongoing human rights violations in Kashmir could be brought to an end.
He said first time in the history of democracy the turn out in election in Azad Kashmir remained 68% which shows that the people of the state are independent in electing their representatives. He said the same percentage in Srinagar protested against India expressing no confidence in the Indian government.
