Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani met with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dashdin Shikarov on Saturday. During the meeting both stressed the need of Cooperation between Azerbaijani and Pakistani armed forces. General Kiyani said Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan will continue and its armed forces stand with Azerbaijan on the Issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Mr. Shikarov also handed over Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister Colonel-General Safar Abiyev’s letter to General Kiyani inviting him to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in 2013. General Kayani accepted the invitation with great pleasure of Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan and promised to visit Azerbaijan in near future.
According to central Asia online Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani assured his country’s support for Azerbaijan in the case of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.
Pakistan Army Chief underlined that his country unambiguously supports Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh problem and has not established diplomatic relations with Armenia because of its aggressive policy. Furthermore, he said that Pakistan does not recognize Armenia as a state. He said Islamabad’s support for Azerbaijan will continue until the occupied territories are liberated.
Pakistan’s army chief also discussed at the meeting about the potential of Pakistan’s defense industry, indicating there is great potential for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in this field.
