LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) Najam Sethi announced Faf du Plessis of South Africa will be captain of the World XI team which will tour Pakistan next month while Andy Flower will be the head coach.
This was revealed by chairman Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) here at a Press Conference on Thursday. He also announced the names of the players who have confirmed their participation in the series of three Twenty20 matches in Lahore next month.
Fourteen players from seven countries will come to Pakistan with the World XI team Players from England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe agreed to play the World XI series in Pakistan while India declined to send its players.
The names of the cricketers are as follows:
Faf du Plessis (SA) captain, Hashim Amla (SA), Samuel Badree (West Indies), George bailey (Australia), Paul Collingwood (England), Ben Cutting (Aus), Grant Elliott (New Zealand), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), David Miller (SA), Morne Morkel (SA), Tim Paine (Aus) – wk, Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Imran Tahir (SA), Darren Sammy (WI)
Meanwhile, DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor has welcomed the PCB announcement in a tweet and said: “We welcome Cricket Team World XI to Pakistan. Pakistanis are eagerly prepared to host them as a peace and sports loving nation.”
