Peace in South Asia linked to settlement of Kashmir dispute: Mehmood Sagar

Islamabad: The former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Pak chapter) and vice president of democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar on Monday while condemning in strong terms the atrocities being committed by Indian troops on the Kashmiri people has termed it as a flagrant violations of basic human rights.

“The innocent people are being arrested on frivolous charges and detained in different jails while the youth are being pushed to the wall”, Saghar said adding that India was hell bent on to crush the voice of dissent in Kashmir by the dint of force. Expressing serious concern over the ill-treatment meted out to the political prisoners lodged in jails in and outside the Kashmir Valley he pointed out that the silence adopted by the world community over the deteriorating situation in Kashmir had given a sense of impunity to India forces to commit more human rights violations.

Terming Indian obduracy as a major hurdle in the way of peace in the region he said that instead of using its military might India must accept the ground reality that Kashmir was a political issue that needs a political solution. Urging New Delhi to stop killing of innocent civilians in Kashmir he said that peace in south Asia was inescapably linked to amicable settlement of Kashmir dispute. “The dream of lasting peace and stability in the region will remain elusive unless the Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmir people”, Saghar said adding that India must not shy away from settling this issue that has been hampering bilateral relations between the India and Pakistan besides posing a serious threat to peace and security in the region.
