PM Abbassi in Kabul for talks to achieve common aim of regional security

Kabul: Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Kabul on Friday morning and held face-to-face talks with President Ashraf Ghani.

According to a Presidential Palace official, Abbasi will also meet with Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and with other political leaders.

Abbasi was welcomed by President Ashraf Ghani and his cabinet members when he arrived at the Presidential Palace at around 10:50am Kabul time. later inspected the guard of honour.  Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Abbasi had landed in Kabul for a day-long visit to ease strained relations between the two countries and revive a push for peace talks with the Taliban.

Both the leader discussed the fight against militancy, the Afghan-led peace process, bilateral relations and regional connectivity as they met in Kabul on Friday.

Abbasi and Ghani are expected to hold a joint press conference on Friday after their meeting.

This comes after President Ghani officially extended an invitation to the Pakistan prime minister to visit Kabul for face-to-face talks in order for the two countries to resolve issues and jointly work towards forging peace in the country.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua accompanied the prime minister.
