President Alvi addresses ‘Global Strategic threat and Response’ event of CASS in Islamabad

Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi, addressing at the inaugural session of a seminar titled “Global strategic threat and response 202″’, organized by the Center for Aerospace and Security Studies (CASS) said that Pakistan understood the value of peace and it had been continuously talking of peace which was in sharp contrast to the belligerent designs of India.

He further said that history was witness to the fact that wars were used as tools for exploitation and loot of the regions and resources. Referring to the perilous situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing pogrom against Muslims in India, he observed that the western interests were swaying the global bodies in which morality and justice often found no place.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, renowned defence analysts, experts, diplomats and academics attended the event.

Air Chief Marshal (retired) Kaleem Saadat,  President of Center for Aerospace and Security Studies (CASS) introducing the activities of CASS said it was a new think-tank which working on the global transformative and destabilizing transitions in the global order. He said the world had been passing through the best and worst of times due to the enormous challenges from cyber tech to aerospace, security and environmental degradation, global tyranny of the rich and inequality of life.

Cameron Munter, former US ambassador to Pakistan, said that Pakistan’s issues like economy and climate change, would be the key factors to face the emerging new global order. He said the old world had been fading, but the new world had not yet shaped itself. Lauding Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace and reconciliation process, Munter said Pakistan could further show its diplomatic strength by further bringing together Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Mr Inam-ul-Haq, Former Foreign Minister of Pakistan talked about Regional Security Dynamics. Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani, Former Foreign Secretary delivered a lecture on Pakistan’s Challenges and Opportunities in Emerging World Order. In the second session of the day, Air Chief Marshal Sir Brian Burridge (Retd), CEO Royal Aeronautical Society, UK delivered a talk on Emergent Technology Debate, whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Lyle Holt, Director Plan Jericho, Royal Australian Air Force gave a presentation on The Growth of Technologies. Dr Filippo Neri Leonardo, President VirtuaLabs SrL, Italy talked about Weapons of the Future.

The last speaker of the session was Colonel Dr. John Andreas Olsen, Norwegian Defence Attaché UK & Aviation Security Expert, who spoke on the future of airpower. A large number of renowned international and national experts and analysts along with high ranking defence and civil officials attended this seminar.
