Shah urges Pakistan to take Kashmir dispute to ICJ

Islamabad: The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Monday appealed the Government of Pakistan to take the Kashmir issue to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

According to the statement issued to press, Shah said Pakistan being a sovereign country and a stakeholder of Kashmir dispute has every right to refer to the international court. “Just as India took the case of Kulbushan Yadav to ICJ, Pakistan should follow the suit and garner international opinion over the issue. By doing so, Pakistan can gain the diplomatic support of world nations in putting an end to Indian state-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir,” he said.

“The ICJ is an influential body which by fulfilling the demands of the people of Jammu Kashmir can put an end to atrocities committed by Indian forces on the people of the held territory.”

Shabir Ahmad Shah has appealed to the permanent members of the UN and its Secretary General to grant an “Observer” status to Jammu Kashmir given its disputed nature. He said the struggle of the people of J&K against India is same as that of Palestine against Israel.

“Though Kashmir dispute is on the agenda of UN, India has created such a horrible atmosphere of terror in the occupied territory that it has become imperative for the oppressed state to achieve the Observer status in the world body so as to raise the voice for justice,” he said.

The DFP chairman said the recent move of UN’s Economic and Social Affairs Department to show Jammu Kashmir as a separate nation has vindicated our stand and encouraged us that we can achieve the Observer status at the world body.“We appeal the representatives of the UN to take serious note of our demand and grant us the Observer status,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shabir Ahmad Shah has congratulated Pakistan cricket team, Pakistan Cricket Board, and Pakistani people for winning the Champions Trophy. “It was the result of a team spirit and hard work,” Shah said, adding that “The people of Jammu Kashmir are delighted and felicitate the Pakistan team on the marvellous win.”
