Turkey & Malaysia stands by Pakistan over Kashmir dispute

Islamabad: Turkey called on the United Nations to play a “more” active role in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute within the framework of the UN resolutions. Earlier Malaysia also called on India and Pakistan to remain loyal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.

According to Anadolu News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry welcomed the consultations held by the UN Security Council on Friday on the recent developments in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. The ministry also reiterates its wish that the dispute be resolved through dialogue between the parties concerned. It also called for calm and avoiding unilateral steps that would escalate tension.

Kashmir region has been facing a communication blockade since Aug. 5, when India scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir. For the first time, landline services were also snapped across the region, thus making it impossible for people to communicate with the outside world.

Earlier in the day, a government spokesman in Jammu and Kashmir said that the authorities have begun restoring landline services in the region.

Malaysia on Thursday called on India and Pakistan to remain loyal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region. A statement issued by the office of Malaysian premier voiced concern over the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir, “in particular, the repeated escalation of tension in the region.”

“Malaysia would like to encourage all stakeholders to abide by the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir towards the maintenance of international peace and security,” read the statement posted on the Twitter account of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

it is reminded that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Aug. 5 removed all provisions under Article 370 and divided the disputed region of Kashmir into two centrally controlled “Union Territories”.
