UNHCR report an eye-opener for world community: Saghar

“Terms lingering dispute as main cause and consequence of HR violations”
Islamabad June 26 : The former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Pak chapter and senior vice president of Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has made a passionate appeal to the UN and OIC secretary generals urging them to play their role in resolving the long-running Kashmir dispute, which he said was the main cause and the consequence of rights violations in the region.” Since the non-resolution of the dispute is the cause and the consequence of all human rights violations and the cruel uncertainty suffered by the people it is imperative that the UN should redouble its efforts to resolve the long pending dispute to put an immediate end to HR violations in the region”, the DFP leader said this in a joint communiqué sent to the UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein UN High Commissioner for Human Rights here on Tuesday.

Appreciating the UNHCR report he said, “The first ever report produced by the world body must serve as eye-opener for all as it takes lid off the cauldron of the gory crimes, which India has been hiding from the world since a long time”. He observed that the historic report carries a special significance because it discusses in detail not only the political dimension of the deadly conflict but also divulges the details about human rights violations, systematic violence and highlights a situation of chronic impunity for violations committed by Indian occupation forces. Terming it a landmark the communiqué said, “It is an eye-opener for the world particularly for those who despite knowing the facts had turned a blind eye towards the Kashmir’s’ unending sufferings and had maintained criminal silence for the sake of protecting their so-called strategic and economic interests”. Extending gratitude to UNHCR commissioner and his team for presenting a comprehensive report of the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir the memo stated that the report had generated new wave of optimism in Kashmir making people of the region believe that justice would be done.

“It gives them (Kashmir’s) the hope for peace and justice, the hope to see an end to all the miseries. It has generated a feeling of trust and confidence amongst the victims that those who wreaked havoc in their lives would be held accountable for the crimes they have committed”. Stressing the need for follow up of the report Saghar urged the UN and OIC secretary generals to use the landmark report in alleviating the Kashmir’s’ sufferings. “The follow up of the landmark report is essentially important to make sure that Indian forces are held accountable for the crimes they have committed against innocent and unarmed Kashmir’s who are struggling for their legitimate cause of right to self-determination”, Saghar said adding that the UN chief should use the report in sensitizing influential governments and the policy makers of member countries of the UN to solve age old conflict that happens to be main cause and consequence of human rights violations in the region. Meanwhile, the DFP leader has expressed grave concern over the continuous detention of incarcerated Party Chairman Shabir Ahmed Shah in Tihar jail. Seeking release of the ailing leader he said. “Shah Sahib is being punished for championing the Kashmir’s’ cause of right to self-determination ”.

Saghar also voiced his grave concern over the recent spate of killings in Kashmir. He appealed the world human rights organizations to take notice of what he called non stop killing of innocent and unarmed civilians by Indian military and paramilitary forces in the region.
