Islamabad: Envoys designate of United Kingdom, Indonesia, Japan, Argentina, Ecuador and Lithuania presented their credentials to President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday at an impressive ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The new British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Thomas Drew, was among those who presented his credentials to President Mamnoon Hussain here at a ceremony at the President House. Thomas Drew arrived in Pakistan in February this year succeeding Philip Barton.
Talking with media followed by the ceremony, Thomas Drew, CMG said: “It is a huge privilege to be working here in Pakistan and to be leading one of Britain’s largest diplomatic missions”, says a press release. “Nearly ten years ago, I moved to Pakistan for the first time to be the Political Counsellor in the British High Commission. I became a great friend of the country and its people. I feel a great sense of energy at coming back here.
“I am energized at seeing old friends by the prospect of discovering more of the beautiful country and most of all by the prospect of doing work, which is so important for both countries. “Pakistan matters to the UK and I like to think the UK matters to Pakistan for each other’s security for regional stability and for each other’s prosperity.”
On Friday each envoy-designate arrived at the main gate of the Aiwan-e-Sadr in a horse driven carriage. On the occasion, the National Anthem of Pakistan and their respective countries were played and the envoys designate were also presented Guard of Honour.
Later, the High Commissioner and Ambassadors separately called on the President. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that Pakistan is desirous of further promoting friendly and brotherly relations with all countries particularly with its neighbors for peace, stability and prosperity in the region. The President stated that Pakistan offers great investment opportunities adding that international investors should take advantage of its investor friendly policies.
The President felicitated the newly appointed High Commissioner and Ambassadors to Pakistan and hoped that they would work for further cementing the existing ties of their respective countries with Pakistan. The President also wished the newly appointed envoys a comfortable and pleasant stay in Pakistan.
High Commissioner and Ambassadors who presented their credentials included Mr. Thomas Drew, High Commissioner of UK, Dr. Iwan Suyudhie Amri, Ambassador of Indonesia, Mr. Takashi Kurai, Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Ivan Ivanissevich, Ambassador of Argentina, Engineer Humberto Vinueza Rodriguez, Ambassador of Ecuador (Resident in Argentina) and Mr. Audrius Bruzga, Ambassador of Lithuania (Resident in Turkey).
