We Will Continue Supporting the Textile Industry of Pakistan: Dr. Stefan Oswald

Lahore: Dr. Stefan Oswald, Head of Division Afghanistan/Pakistan of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany said textile industry is a backbone of Pakistan economy and the GIZ would continue supporting the textile industry of Pakistan. He expressed these views after signing Declaration of Intent (DoI) with The All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association on Thursday in Lahore.

A high level German delegation led by the Dr. Stefan Oswald, Head of Division Afghanistan/Pakistan of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany is visiting Lahore.He further pointed out that textile industry should also consider the option of using solar energy for heating the water in processing industry.

In Lahore the All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Punjab Chapter) and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) signed on Thursday a Declaration of Intent (DoI) for a sustainable textile industry across the value chain. APTMA Punjab Acting Chairman Syed Ali Ahsan and Country Director GIZ Dr Ulrike Reviere signed the DoI on behalf of their respective organizations. A website www.spc.org.pk was also launched to create awareness on Sustainable Production Centre.

During their visit of Lahore German delegation met with Chairman Planning and Development Board Punjab, Mr. Jahanzeb Khan and other representatives from the Punjab Government Authorities such as the Excise and Taxation Department and NAVTTC. Later Punjab Vocational Training Council arranged a visit of delegation to find out more about competency based training. Afterwards the delegation went to the premises of the Government Apprentices Training Center in which DB Schenker as one partner from the corporate sector offers Cooperative Vocational Training.

During stay in Lahore the German delegation held a meeting with Secretary Dr. Asad Rehman Gilani, Department of Energy of the Government of the Punjab where Dr. Stefan Oswald, Head of Division Afghanistan/Pakistan of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), inaugurated the first secretariat of Pakistan German Renewable Energy Forum (PGREF) at the premises of the Department of Energy.

GIZ a German Institution has been working in Pakistan on behalf of the German Government, mainly the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA), since the bilateral agreement was signed in 1972, and has maintained a country office in Pakistan since 1990. Germany and Pakistan have been partners in international cooperation for more than 54 years.
