Youth can play important role in projecting Kashmir issue in Europe: AJK PM

Brussels: The Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan has said, EU Kashmiri and Pakistani expatriate community particularly the educated youth can play a significant role in sensitizing the international community about the early resolution of Kashmir dispute.

AJK PM who is currently on a visit to Belgium in connection with Kashmir EU Week at European Parliament in Brussels said this while addressing a gathering of Kashmiri and Pakistan youth specially students from different universities in the European capital here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion Khan said, “Youth should play their role to create public awareness in Europe on Kashmir dispute. They should talk to European youth, intellectuals, politicians and parliamentarians and brief them about the genesis of the Kashmir dispute”.

“Says educate youth can play significant role in creating public awareness in Europe on Kashmir, stresses the need for rising above the political and sectarian divide, seeks media’s role in highlighting Kashmir issue in Europe”

Stressing the need for rising above the political and sectarian divide he said, “In Europe, we have to shun party politics and introduce ourselves as Kashmiris and work together to serve the collective cause effectively”. Raja Farooq Haider said, “I came here as a Kashmiri and for that I can highlight the issue of Kashmir effectively. I left my party affiliation in Islamabad”. He also advised the other Kashmiri leaders to put aside their political party affiliation when they travel abroad.

He also urged media to help in highlighting Kashmir issue in Europe. He suggested that social media must play responsible role.

About Kashmir, he emphasized that “we should not compromise on our national interests while we should stand on our principles”.

Host of the gathering Tariq Butt expressed his gratitude to the participants and loaded efforts of AJK’s PM Raja Farooq Haider and Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed for raising Kashmir cause in Europe.  Noted Kashmir figure in Belgium Sardar Sadique said, “Kashmir issue is an international dispute and therefore the world community as a whole should play its role to resolve it peacefully”.

The gathering followed by dinner was arranged by UK based Kashmiri figure and businessman Tariq Butt. Prominent Kashmiri leader based in Belgium Sardar Sadique also addressed the gathering while the program was moderated by Pakistan Press Club Belgium Ch Imran Saqib. Senior Minister AJK Ch Tariq Farooq, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed, MEP Wajid Khan, MLA Raja Javed Iqbal, Member Brussels Parliament Dr Zahoor Manzoor and Lady Councilor Shazia Manzoor were also present on the occasion.
